Tambopata · Sandoval Lake Lodge |
4 days/3 nights Located within the Tambopata National Reserve (Port Maldonado), a 25 minutes river ride on the Mother of God takes you to the Sandoval Lake Lodge located in one of the most beautiful lakes of the Forest of the Tambopata and perhaps of all Peru. Because of the close proximity to Cuzco (Only a 30 minute flight), it is the best combination to visit the capital of the Inca Empire. |

Day 01. - Cusco · Port Maldonado - Heath River Reception and transfer from the airport of Port Maldonado to the port located in the River Mother of God River. Here we travel by motorboat, a trip of about 4.5 hours, until arriving at the Heath River Wildlife Center. During the passage we will sail on the Mother of God River, in the direction of the border of Peru with Bolivia. On this tour, 75% of the creeks of the rivers are covered by primary forest this contradicts with the river trip in the Tambopata river where 15% are primary forest and the rest is earth is dedicated to agriculture or other activities.
When arriving to Heath River, the natural border between Peru and Bolivia, we will change to smaller boats directing us to Heath River Wildlife Center. The owners of these lodges are the Ese Eja natives. This is the only shelter where the native community is 100% owners of the lodges.
During the passage we will have a delicious cold lunch. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO BRING THE PASSPORT FOR THIS TRIP (IT IS IMPORTANT).
In the evening, our hosts, the Ese Eja natives will take us to explore the forest and to look for the different species of monkeys and hundreds of species of birds that live in this place of paradise. |
Day 02.- Visit the Collpa of Parrots and Guacamayos Early in the morning we will board the canoe and sailon the Heath River to interesting collpa of Parrots and Guacamayos. The trip can last between 45 minutes and one hour. During the passage we will appreciate birds and be able to spot one or two families of Capibaras in the banks of the river. Capibaras is the greatest and photogenic rodents of the world and giant relatives of the guinea pig. They get approximately to weigh about 55 kilograms.
In order to observe collpa, we counted on a floating hiding place specially designed for this aim. In the hiding place breakfast will be offered while we admire the natural spectacle that begins with the arrival of the small parrots of green electrical blue emerald color and later arrive the great guacamayos of red and green color. The birds arrive at collpa to feed themselves on the clay.
After the beautiful exhibition, we will return to the shelter to gather our suitcases and to initiate our trip towards the Sandoval Lake Lodge, lodges located to borders of the Sandoval lake considered by the specialists of forest like of the most beautiful and attractive lakes of the Peruvian forest. A cold lunch for the route is included.
After the boat trip in the Heath River and the Mother of God River, we will arrive at the beginning of a trail by which a long walk of 45 minutes will take place towards a narrow channel where we will approach a small canoe that will lead to us towards the Sandoval Lake. After admiring the beautiful one of the lake, a catamaran will approach and will lead to us towards the Sandoval Lake Lodge. In the passage we will observe the famous aguajales with palms where especially at the dusk, the guacamayos arrive to spend the night or to remain in their nests. |

Day 03 .-
Sandoval Lake Lodge · Heath River
Early in the morning we will awake to visit the Sandoval Lake. We may observe birds that leave in search of food, and with a little luck, to see a family of 9 wolves near to the river. This species is in danger of being extinct. The first hours in the morning it is, without a doubt, the best moment to see fauna and to obtain good photographic shots of the wolves in search of the fish. We return for shelter and to have breakfast.
Soon after lunch, we can rest shortly and visit the part the lake where we will appreciate one or more than five species of monkeys that live in the area (Capuchín Monkey).
Return to the shelter to have supper and later a new visit to the Lake to see the Black Caymans (rare in the Amazon).

Day 04.- Return
Soon after breakfast, we will leave from the airport flying to the city of Lima or Cuzco. |
